NARRATIon,
FEELING, PLACE
& RESPONSE.
I work across sculpture and graphic design, letting each inform the other. Using mixed materials, bold colour, graphic forms and found objects, my work explores emotion and a sense of place through abstraction. I’m interested in how fragments of memory, environment & experience can be broken apart and reassembled, allowing familiar elements to shift and take on new meaning.
Growing up on the coast as a Cold War kid shaped how I see space, navigation & communication and left behind a quiet sense of unease & strange obsession. The docks, sea defences, maritime infrastructure and signalling systems were part of my visual landscape, alongside the graphic language of military & industrial design. Late nights, listening to strange transmissions on an old radio heightened a fascination with invisible networks & coded hidden messages. These influences punctuate the work through simplified symbols, repeated motifs and strong contrasts, carrying traces of distance, uncertainty and tension.
The process is purely instinctive where ideas emerge through making, deconstruction & rebuilding, with close attention to how materials, forms and colours interact. The inclusion of found objects is part of this process in itself, whether finding peace on the beach or trawling antique markets, objects already worn, used and shaped by time each bring their own character & history into the work. Personal moments flood the pieces but it's never overtly illustrative and rather than telling a single story, it invites viewers to slow down and make their own connections & narratives. Despite its darker starting points, the work aims to feel playful and hopeful, leaving a quiet sense of optimistic intrigue.
